Update: Thank you, friends and readers, for teaching and challenging me. I’m learning, and it’s clear I have a lot more to learn! I’ve decided to take my picture summary off-line at this time. I originally shared the picture summary for the purpose of encouraging others to read Dr. Kendi’s book and to discuss his ideas on antiracism. I thought what I was doing was akin to making a short summary and review and helping the author to promote his book.
A reader has recently brought to my attention that, given the history of African Americans having their creative works unethically appropriated by others, it would have been far more respectful if I had gained prior permission from Dr. Kendi before posting my drawings. The last thing I want is to disrespect Dr. Kendi in any way or to cause him or his work any harm. Based on this feedback, I have reached out to Dr. Kendi and will not repost the picture summary unless I receive express permission from him.
