Note to Self: Just Be

Today is one of those days.  I feel overwhelmed, like I’ve bitten off much more than I can chew.  Most days, I write for you, my dear reader. Today, I need to write for me.

Dear Self:

It’s one of those days again.  You feel tired.  Your head hurts.  Your kids haven’t been sleeping through the night.  You basically let them watch TV all day yesterday because you were too tired to engage.  And your home is a mess.

Dear one, you are worthy of love.

It isn’t your job to have it all together.  (You don’t.)  It isn’t your job to know all the answers.  (You can’t.)

Today, your first job is just to be.

Be small today.  Be needy.  Be tired.  Be overwhelmed.  Let yourself feel what you feel.  Let yourself take just one step at a time.  Let yourself listen for what you need.  Let yourself disappoint others, knowing that you don’t need to be perfect.  Remember that you have nothing to give, unless you first let yourself receive.

Remember your calling.  And forget your expectations.

Let God’s love in, my dear.

Hey! Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat!
Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which doesn't satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.
Isaiah 55:1-2

Strength for Today

I compiled a deck of Scripture cards several years ago to help my therapy clients identify their needs and connect to their strengths. This is the strength that I need today. I hope you also receive the strength that you need.

(Please note that the images above are not from the current edition of the cards, but are a sneak peak of a lovely re-design by my friend Becky Jiras for the next edition.)

May you live deeply and love deeply, friend.
